Mobile Gambling Popularity

Online casino gaming has reached a new height in popularity and one area that is catching on at a fever pitch is the mobile online casino. For those who like to play at online casinos but are away from their PC, there is still an option to play casino games: via a mobile or handheld unit. Some of the most popular online casinos now offer their games in three flavors: download, no-download and mobile versions. This gives player a wide variety of choice depending on where they are.

Marc Falcone, Deutsche Bank gambling analyst commented on the popularity of mobile online casinos and the direction they are heading in: "I think every major online casino company wants to get into online gaming, but without access to the U.S. market, it becomes a costly venture. The gadgets are the first step in a long process."

But some people don?t want to see casino games outside the casino. Sen. Maggie Carlton, of Las Vegas said “it's bad enough that the state has allowed Keno to be played away from the casino floor. There needs to be places where there aren't two and three gaming devices at your disposal.” There is a real concern that the mobile online casino could make the temptation for some people to always have access to casino games much too tempting.

Mobile Gambling

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mobile gambling refers to gambling done on a remote wirelessly connected device. These devices can include wireless tablet PC's, mobile phones and other non traditional mid-level networked comuting devices. Some online casinos and online poker cardrooms offer mobile options.

Mobile gambling requires a data connection to operate and in most cases this data layer is provided by the telecom provider for the region or country. GPRS, GSM Data, UMTS, I-MODE are all data layer technologies upon which mobile gambling depends.

While still relatively underdeveloped, analysts place the value of the market space at US$20 billion by 2010. Jupiter, Gartner and Seymour Pierce all project rapid growth in the sector through to 2010.

The market is still in its nascent market at the moment, as mobile operators and brands/ media owners are not in a position to create this market at the moment due to the potential reputational risk. This is mainly because of the uncertain nature of most countries' in-decision towards regulation of remote gambling online gambling.

Some companies however have begun developing and testing mobile platforms to position themselves early in the anticipated growth of the market.

Mobile Gambling - A Growing Business

If you have about gambling the classic image of a casino, full of people, who wants to place their bets, maybe you may want to think again.

According to an Informa Telecoms & Media report, cited by Digital-Lifestyles.info , the market for mobile gambling content is going to soar from US$1.2bn of annual revenues in 2005 to US$7.6bn by 2010, with more than 200 million consumers gambling the odds using mobile devices.

"Mobile gambling is already generating significant revenues, but there is room for sharp growth in the years ahead," says Stuart Dredge, the report's author.

"Operators recognize that there is a strong demand for mobile gambling services, and there is no shortage of companies looking to provide them. However, the industry must keep in mind its responsibilities to tackle underage and problem gambling."

The report looked at the three key types of mobile gambling - sports betting, lotteries and casino-gaming - and predicted that lotteries are going to be the number one form of mobile gambling in the next five years, spurred on by widespread handset support.

The report sees Europe remaining the largest market for mobile gambling, generating a hefty US$3.2bn of annual revenues by 2010.

According to a previous report, the analysts of Jupiter Research consider, also, that the new name of the game is lotteries, which will generate the most important growth of revenues, until 2010.

Jupiter Research considers that a cause for this it may be the fact that lotteries are more acceptable to the laws than casinos or sport betting. But also if the laws on gambling will be changed in China or U.S. those values are likely to change.
